Allow Me to “Reintroduce Myself” Video #Summer17Writing : Day 3

Drama at its finest. It was destined, lol.

Welcome to Day 3 of #Summer17Writing. My sis Siren and I created this challenge because we were in a creative slump and wanted to create more content. We’re so happy for those who have joined us.

Today’s writing prompt: Name one thing you can do in the next 3 weeks that will bring you closer to your business or academic goals.

I almost feel guilty naming one when I know it’s over 100 things I should have BEEN completed to get me closer to my business goals, but here it goes: Film “Reintroduce Myself” video. Let me explain.

Years ago I made a lil’ name for myself through my blog Nikki and the City. A few years ago I shut that blog down and launched ┬á, which is fine, but I was still branding myself as a blogger/writer. I hadn’t accepted the purpose God put in me as a young child: Acting.

Maybe it was the fact that I attended Columbia College for theatre, but had to drop out after one semester. Or maybe it was because I was in Chicago and at the time it seemed like you had to live in L.A. Whatever the reason, I let go of my dreams of acting and pursued a degree in Media Studies, which led me to tap into my gift of writing. And because God NEVER wastes anything I found myself wanting to be the person who created more roles for women of color a.k.a. SCREENWRITER. Thanks to women like Issa Rae and Lena Waithe it’s proven I can be the screenwriter AND the actress in my creation.

So here I am smack dab in the middle of transitioning. I’m learning first hand that rebranding isn’t easy. However, the first step is to be EXTREMELY clear about who you are and what you do. With that being said, I need to film my introduction or should I say “reintroduction” video within the next three weeks.

A few years ago I realized I was asking God for certain opportunities I wasn’t prepared for. Lesson learned.

Allow me to reintroduce myself. Wait for it.

What are you working on?

Love Always,
